82e2ae94As a believer I find myself longing after Jesus and pursuing the reality that is alive in me through the Holy Spirit. I also find something else going on, a very persuasive desire to promote and delight in myself. At some point it seems that we are losing zeal for the Lord in the name of more education or losing Godly wisdom in the name of passion. One question I would like to answer is, ‘What does the church look like with both wisdom and power?’ The answer is the book of Acts. Read it later…

It seems instead most settle for one or the other and the consequence is a divided, out of operation body of Christ. We either become super passionate with little Godly wisdom or intelligent but lacking spiritual depth. So the intellectual chase false understanding and the rest chase emotional experiences. There is definitely something to be said when ‘the church’ thinks she can put God into a formalized plan of action outside of His spoken Word and there is another issue when the plan is to have no plan at all.

There must be an examination of the hearts of believers and a cry for the motives of Christ to be the motives of the church. I have come to realize that to have true Holy Spirit power and proven Godly-wisdom simultaneously we must keep Jesus in the center of every bit of knowledge we receive from the Word and every miracle that God graciously gives must point to Christ.

The truth of this matter is that when Jesus is supreme in the life of the church our flesh is put to death and the Holy Spirit moves upon the church in such a way that when we speak, act, or express anything;  Jesus is revealed. We must submit to the Word of God and do as it says. Jesus instructs us as believers to understand that we are loved, love Him, and love others and that our witness of true love for Him is obedience to these commands.

But how can the church put Jesus supremely above everything? I mean we have our traditions, our thoughts on theology, and our commitment to our denomination. Simple, we believe He really is who He said He is. Jesus absolutely cannot be just a prophet we admire, or a good teacher we follow, nor can He even be just a man who heard from God.

Jesus has to be a liar, a lunatic, or He is the one true living GOD….and if He is God there is nothing left for the church to do but lay down every desire, aspiration, understanding, and idea at His feet and then actually trust the Word of God instead of trusting what is left of our flesh.

See Jesus claimed about Himself something so high that it is just flat out offensive to man when He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 KJV

The authentic and right submission to Jesus is, EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!

I honestly confuse myself sometimes in my lack of passion, obedience, and surrender to my Savior who is described in ways like the following:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” John 1:1-5 KJV

Let us not forget how wonderful God’s grace is to our lives. The only advice I have if you ever forget your first love (Jesus), do not leave your knees until you remember His name. His name is Emmanuel, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Son of God, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, Redeemer, His name is Jesus and He is for you. When you set your heart and mind on the things of God you will never make it far without seeing and understanding the love of Christ Jesus, our life. Knowing Jesus never leaves the church lifeless, but rather so full of divine life that it cannot help but to go share the Gospel.
